Alvin Richards-Belle

Alvin has a strong interest in the intersections between physical and mental health – particularly in how physical health conditions (acute or chronic) can cause or impact mental health symptoms and conditions. Other key interests include improving methods of research conduct and representation in research.

Alvin has an academic background in Psychology (University of Southampton) and over 8 years’ experience working on and managing large-scale randomised clinical trials and observational cohort studies in the field of critical care, having worked at the Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC). Studies included: the evaluation of a complex psychological intervention aimed at preventing the development of PTSD symptoms in patients recovering from critical illness and epidemiological studies exploring the first epidemic wave of COVID-19 in critical care. Alvin continues an ongoing collaboration with ICNARC.

During his rotation year, Alvin is working on a diverse range of projects spanning different areas and methods in mental health research – specifically, he is completing rotations with Prof Elvira Bramon (Mechanism), Dr Vaughan Bell (Population) and Prof Roz Shafran (Intervention).
